  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kimberly Kayy Kimtastic Kreations -- Well done book!! : I got this book because my daughter had to write about someone who has passed away but who did something to help others!! She wanted to write about Walt Disney.. And I told her no and I picked Dorothy Dandridge for her I wanted her to read the history of Dorothy Dandridge and also watch the movie about Dorothy Dandridge she’s 10 years old.. And I really want her to learn about black history of different people of black culture.. not just what we are taught in school.. This book is everything!! The details is wonderful the wording is great.. it gives you so much understanding and Clarification into her life.. Things that you can’t get just from watching the movie.. the pictures are so beautiful!! This book gets 10 stars ( Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2019 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Happy Gal -- Great bood, sad story : Donald Bogle did an exceptional job of telling Dorothy's story, and the cast of characters that came with it, without getting bogged down or sidetracked in any direction too far. The book flows and is a page turner, hard to put down. I was surprised to read that Dorothy was trying to get Lady Sings the Blues into production and that she and Marilyn Monroe were friends. They were definitely kindred spirits, their stories paralleled to the tragic end. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2014 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Author Sahara Bowser -- What A Story! : Bogle nailed it. Well-written. Bogle puts readers in the room with Dorothy. You feel her fragility, her pain. Bogle presents the people in Dorothy’s life like characters in a story. He gives them depth. Readers forget this is a nonfiction story and find themselves wanting a happy ending for the protagonist. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Demetrice C. Hardy -- Dorthy Dandridge - human, superstar, human : I checked this book out from the library for Black History Month. I felled in love with the story that I chose to buy it in order to finish reading her life's story. I was able to relate to her life on many levels. She was an oscar nominated woman, she was a great performer/singer, as well as known for her acting skills. She, too, experience the same concerns that many of us face today. She was insecure about her talent at times & suffered great anxieties. She found it difficult to find love which offered her security that many women today experience. She was a pioneer & champion for african americans rights. I have told many that I was impressed with the fact that she was a superstar dealing with real issues that many of us assume that only happens to the little folks. I love Dorthy Dandridge & I will treasure this book always. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2006 )
